Hi, I'd like to see if I'm parsing this correctly - my version seems a bit illogical.
XXXXX has the right [....] to retain compensation intended for the Company under this agreement in the settlement of damages.
XXXXX äger därvid rätt [....] innehålla Bolaget tillkommande ersättning enligt detta avtal i avräkning på skadeståndet.
The full paragraph is below. As you see it is all about the Company compensating XXXXX in the case of a breach, but the final phrase seems to refer to compensation being paid to the Company. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

in lieu of damages
I think in lieu of is okay here as if company XXX has retained 50,000 Euros and then company YYY is ordered to pay company XXX 120,000 euros, then I'm sure that company YYY will only pay 70,000 more Euros to them. Company XXX is not going to take the chance of returning the money withheld to YYY and then hope that YYY will pay out the entire 120 000 Euros as per the judgement. Far too risky.
So any money retained is in lieu of the damages awarded
