Comment: ""Science outreach" is the one for me and is perfectly summed up in the Wikipedia entry: "an umbrella term for a variety of activities by research institutes, universities, and institutions such as science museums, aimed at promoting public awareness of science and making informal contributions to science education", which fitted my context perfectly.
That said, "science communication" is a great alternative and its Wiki description is good too: "the practice of informing, educating, raising awareness of science-related topics, and increasing the sense of wonder about scientific discoveries and arguments".

As someone without a science background but who is interested in the subject, I've been reading and listening to various "science communicators" over the past fifteen years and this is always the term I hear them use in this context.
"Science communication is the practice of informing, educating, raising awareness of science-related topics, and increasing the sense of wonder about scientific discoveries and arguments. Science communicators and audiences are ambiguously defined and the expertise and level of science knowledge varies with each group. Two types of defined science communication are science outreach (typically conducted by professional scientists to non-expert audiences) and science "inreach" (expert to expert communication from similar or different scientific backgrounds)."

As you can see from the reference above, "science outreach" is a slightly narrower term aimed specifically at non-expert audiences (like myself), but as I say, the people who do this kind of work generally refer to themselves as "science communicators," possibly because it's just easier to understand.

Divulgacion is often just education. I just translated a text about Carl Sagan, describing him as a 'divulgador' as well as astronomer. Searching in English, he is often described as a science educator, so that's what I used.
