Discussion

Ramey Rieger (X) Oct 16, 2020:
Good morning Susan! It seems to me you need varyig translations for the examples:

1. ...plays a role in process impacts
2. ...and relevant impacts of informal? advisory processes
3. ...trigger inner processes which may have either/or a placebo or nocebo effect

My two cents' worth. Have a lovely weekend.

inner process / active process / inner workings

From the sources I found it looks like active process in the same sense as that an ingredient can be an active ingredient. But I also like the idea of inner process or inner workings especially You could also just translate it as "processes".

A negative correlation is expected between baseline exposure and response according to percentage improvement and remission, and the assumption that early response plays a mediating role in the active processes is examined.

The authors explain how information and communication as stimuli can trigger active internal processes that can lead to both a placebo and a nocebo.

unfolding process/process at play

Wirkprozess suggests to me that the effect(s) (Wirkung) of those processes is/are significant or relevant in the context (eine Wirkung entfalten).

"The authors explain how stimuli in the form of information and communication may trigger unfolding internal mechanisms/processes that..."

Seems to me that in this sentence the concept of Wirkung is at least partially covered by "trigger", so one might decide that "unfolding" can be omitted with little loss of meaning.
Peer comment(s):

agree Gordon Matthews : I would go for "(unfolding) internal process" (Brackets indicate that "unfolding" is optional.)

agree Cillie Swart : I also like internal process or inner workings.

neutral Klaus Beyer : unfolding: ein sich entwickelnder Process?

have had a good look at possible renderings and this seems plausible but wouldn't bet my last dollar...
