Wyniki badania hist-pat pacjenta z guzem języka. Jest tu wykaz wycinków pooperacyjnych. Przy materiałach z guza języka jest tak: "guz języka, str. prawa - nitka brzeg przedni", a niżej "guz języka, dodatkowy fragment - nitka brzeg przyśrodkowy".
O co tutaj z tą nitką chodzi?

Niezbędne jest śródoperacyjne oznakowanie kierunków wyciętego preparatu (np. nitkami, metalowymi znacznikami itd). Umożliwia to precyzyjne wskazanie miejsca nieradykalności operacyjnej (brak marginesu R0)

The specimen should be accurately oriented for identification of various margins. Ideally, the orientation of the specimen should be done by the operating surgeon. Surgeons frequently indicate the margins by tagging the specimen with sutures. One to two sutures are usually sufficient for the proper orientation of the resection specimen. Usually, sutures in different length or different color indicate different margins and this must be mentioned by the surgeon in the pathology request form, for example, short suture indicates superior margin and long suture indicates lateral margin.

This method has been proven to be cheap, it uses equipment and materials readily available in the operating theatre. Furthermore, if any of the methods fails as there is more than one way to identifying your margins. For example if a clip were to fall off, the type/length of suture and the orientation on the board will still allow you to identify the correct margin. If the sample was to fall off the board, the sutures and clips will still allow the pathologist to orientate the sample.
