Saw your post Steffen Corrected it
Steffen Walter Jun 14, 2020:
Please ... ... correct the English glossary entry - it's got to be "self-concealing" rather than "Self consealing". Thank you.
Chris Pr Jun 13, 2020:
Good afternoon... ...I'm wondering why you've edited the glossary entry to reflect my answer rather than the one selected as 'correct'...?
sparta1978 (asker) Jun 12, 2020:
exact time May 1940,
Panzer IV variant is likely Ausf. D
sparta1978 (asker) Jun 12, 2020:
I have not heard the smoke grenades in launchers being called candles until yesterday.

Selb - excellent catch. It made a world of difference.

You and Chris worked to give good answers. Thank you!
Peer comment(s):

agree Adrian MM. : you beat me to it: „Die Nebelwurfanlage ermöglicht durch Verschießen von Nebelwurfkörpern die Selbsteinnebelung des Kampfpanzers, um ihn erforderlichenfalls rasch der Feindsicht zu entziehen.“ // And complains about others being 'out of their depth'

Thanks. The other contributor seems to have removed his original suggestion (sulphuric-yellow smoke) and come up with a rephrase.

neutral Chris Pr : smoke launcher / candle dropper...? are you sure about this...?

Certainly more sure than your first suggestion - since hidden - that this was something to do with sulphur (Gelbstein). Hilarious!
agree Ramey Rieger (X) : Blowing hot and cold?

Just hot at the moment

From the same Wikipedia link above:
"Smoke grenades are used for several purposes. The primary use is the creation of smoke screens for concealment and the signalling of aircraft."

To my mind, at least, the phrase reads more like:

'Selbsteinnebelung sowie Einnebelung des Gegners....'

"Self-concealing as well as enemy-shrouding smoke screens..". (or similar{

But others obviously don't appear to see it that way... :)

In other words, the actual purpose of the smoke screens rather than how, or with which equipment, they are created...
But, yes, a bit different to yellow smoke...
Note from asker:
Good try Chris. It gave me a lot of trouble as it was in Gothic and I misread it.
Your second answer is strong. Good job sticking with it.
