English term

whole grain kernel

English to Spanish Medical Medical (general) Nutrition
What are grains?
Bread, pasta, oatmeal, cereal, and tortillas are all grains. Whole grains are those that haven’t been processed and include the whole grain kernel. Oats, barley, quinoa, brown rice, and bulgur are all whole grains, as are products made with those grains. Look for the words “whole grain” on the product label. When you plan meals, make half of your grain servings whole grains.

I know "whole grain" translates to "grano integral", but "kernel" is "grano" too.

el grano entero

"Los granos integrales son aquellos que llevan el grano integral" sounds odd. I suggest departing a little from the original so that it makes sense and sounds natural for a Spanish speaker:

"Los granos (o cereales) integrales son aquellos que mantienen el grano entero/completo."

---
In their natural state growing in the fields, whole grains are the entire seed of a plant. This seed (which industry calls a “kernel”) is made up of three key edible parts – the bran, the germ, and the endosperm... (wholegraincouncil.org)

Un grano integral es un grano de cereal que contiene el germen, el endospermo, y el salvado, en contraste con los granos refinados, de los cuales sólo se retiene el endospermo. (Wikipedia)

grano entero

This could be another translation, which means the same thing as "grano integral" really.

But, for instance, I found a reference talking about "PAN INTEGRAL, DE GRANO ENTERO" - so maybe 'integral' is a better description for the bread and 'entero' for the grain?

grano entero sin refinar

Peer comment(s):

disagree Lydia De Jorge : Redundante. Entero significa precisamente sin refinar. Es como subir para arriba.
