agree Michael Korovkin : I think there is a need to translate "appositi", because casings may be either generic (panel-like) or dedicated to each unit, that is "special". I'd put "special". BTW, I mistype even at the table on a big keyboard!

neutral Michael Korovkin : they are not panels: they are casings. Dedicated ones. For example,"carter" is used for engin casing.You can't say that the engin just sits amidst protective panels. Same here.

guards for machines, belts etc.

The guards are normally some form of casing. No need to repeat it.

neutral Michael Korovkin : guards may be just banisters or nettings. Here they are not only "carter" but special ones.So, I think "special casings" is the ticket here.
