Sandwiches Do be careful here, since at least one major fast-food chain refers to all their burgers etc. as "sandwiches".
Do note that this term has a very specific meaning: it is the 'holding area' between the prep area and the sales person actually serving the customer — this is why it is analagous to the 'passe-plats' in a conventional restaurant: the prep area is the kitchen, and the counter sales assistant is the equivalent of a waiter.
The key point is that this 'landing area' is a staging point for use by staff only, between the preparers and the servers — whether these are hot or cold sandwiches makes little difference in relation to the actual term itself. This is quite different from any form of 'customer-facing' counter or display: it is simply a way of efficiently fulfilling orders: the preparer calls out the sandwich they heve prepared as they pop it into this 'holding area', so that the sales assistant knows it is ready and can grab it.

neutral Tony M : Too general: this usually refers to the sort of fast-food version of a 'passe-plats' used by staff only that is located BEHIND the customer counter.

agree Lorraine Dubuc : This could well be comptoir, even 'comptoir réfrigéré', 'présentoir' . How do we know? 'Passe-plat' is a window to present a dish to a waiter and has nothing to do with 'comptoir'.

neutral Antoine Dequidt : Le texte source est aussi peu précis, mais "comptoir" laisse penser que les sanswich sont en self service ce qui suppose qu'ils soient vendus en self-service et emballés individuellement. Cette précision est absente du texte source.

"Présentoir" is correct even if this is the final stage where the consumer can pick the sandwiches an not an intermediate stage.

neutral Tony M : I believe this is the intermediate 'counter' between the prep. area and the service area. Yes but that's not what this is: think the sloping service panel behind the counter at MacDo — THAT's the landing area.
