Presión de trabajo máxima permisible: La MAWP (Maximum Allowable Working
Pressure), es la presión máxima a la que se puede someter un recipiente, en condiciones
de operación, suponiendo que está:
o En condiciones después de haber sido corroído.
o Bajo los efectos de la temperatura de diseño.
o En la posición normal de operación.
o Bajo los efectos de otras cargas, tales como fuerza debida al viento, presión
hidrostática, etc., cuyos efectos deben agregarse a las ocasionadas por la presión

3.4.4 SOBRE-ESPESORES DE CÁLCULO
Para el cálculo de los espesores de los recipientes a presión no sólo se considera los esfuerzos a los que está sometido sino que se consideran los siguientes sobre-espesores:
 De Corrosión: A la hora de asumir el espesor de fabricación, hay que tener en cuenta que, a lo largo de la vida útil del mismo, puede ir perdiendo espesor de pared debido a la corrosión por efectos de la climatología, o bien por ataque químico del producto contenido.

Para aumentar la vida útil del depósito, se le añade al espesor calculado para soportar los esfuerzos de cálculo, un sobre-espesor que corrija esta pérdida de pared del recipiente.

Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) is the maximum gauge pressure permissible at the top of a completed vessel in its operating position for a designated temperature. The pressure is based on calculations for each element in a vessel using nominal thicknesses, which are exclusive of additional metal thicknesses allowed for corrosion and loadings other than pressure. The maximum allowable working pressure is the basis for the pressure setting of the pressure relief devices that protect the vessel.

The MAWP value does not remain constant throughout the lifespan of the equipment. The value reduces due to wear, fatigue and corrosion in the case of the carbon steel. Storage tanks and pressure vessels should undergo periodic inspections and re-rating or calibrations to allow for changes due to corrosion and wear. These should be well documented and a safe set of pressures implemented, as well as be reflected on the vessel’s pressure release devices.
