Exactly! Also a depth of less than 350m seems to be the limit - only deeper than that is a "deep" mine.

mine profonde de charbon je ne pense pas que deep soit synonyme de off shore.. mais la profondeur de la mine car dans le même article il y a la phrase suivante The last deep coal mine in the UK, Kellingley Colliery in North Yorkshire, closed in 2016.

disagree Daryo : Just because the first ghit for "deep coal mining" happens to be a mine under the sea bed doesn't make it a defining characteristic of a "deep mine" + not all underground mines are "deep"
