garantie sur facture

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) winemaking products
'XXX a entrepris de faire référencer ses produits pour leur utilisation en vinification Bio selon les règlements européens UE NNNN/2012. La page d’impression de cette liste est une garantie suffisante lors des audits si elle est accompagnée de la garantie sur facture. Ainsi, ce référencement informe officiellement nos clients des produits référencés et simplifie leurs démarches administratives au cours des audits.'

Thank you in advance.

Discussion

Margarida Martins Costelha (asker) Nov 11, 2019:
Thank you, everyone. The text I posted is as in the source, except for the XXX. It's from a French company.
Daryo Nov 7, 2019:
Could be that one but there is no mention in it of any "garantie sur facture".

As a matter of principle, the least someone helping for free could expect is not to be forced to play detective when it's avoidable.
Wolf Draeger Nov 7, 2019:
@Daryo If you check my 2nd ref link, I think it's Regulation (EU) No 203/2012. But agree no reason not to state it in the question.
Daryo Nov 7, 2019:
not quite "A guarantee (whatever it is) written on an invoice has no legal value since an invoice is not a contract"

Don't count too much on that.

If you put on your invoice a "guarantee" that your translation has been checked for accuracy and proof-read, trust me it WILL make you responsible for every single typo you (or anyone else) missed ...

Also if the ST says:

La page d’impression de cette liste est une garantie suffisante lors des audits si elle est accompagnée de la garantie sur facture.

As far as I can see if "si elle est accompagnée de la garantie sur facture" is a condition for some "page d’impression de cette liste" to be taken seriously, that can only mean that whatever you put on an invoice DOES HAVE some weight, creates obligations for you.

BTW, what's the point of anonymising this EU regulation??? Leaving it is not going to identify in any way who exactly are the parties involved in this ST, BUT might help understand the fine points of this "garantie sur facture".

Sylvie LE BRAS Nov 7, 2019:
@Wolf TY for your comment.
I let native English translators answer on that question, but I think your sugestion "proof of traceability" might work in this context. In my opinion a literal translation is not appropriate. I believe it is more a separate statement saying that the products are organic. A guarantee (whatever it is) written on an invoice has no legal value since an invoice is not a contract.

Wolf Draeger Nov 6, 2019:
Proof of purchase/traceability? @Sylvie, I think you've got the right idea, why not post an answer?

@Asker, the text is rather poorly worded. Do you know if the company in question is French or not? Garantie sur facture is an odd expression (in slang it appears to mean "a sure thing, definitely, for sure"). I wonder if it's a mistranslation or misused here.
Sylvie LE BRAS Nov 6, 2019:
"garantie sur facture" signifie que les produits de la liste doivent pouvoir être tracés par des factures d'achat desdits produits.
Les factures d'achat que pourra produire XXX garantiront le statut BIO des produits
philgoddard Nov 6, 2019:
I've turned my discussion entry into an answer.
Margarida Martins Costelha (asker) Nov 6, 2019:
Thank you Phil. Yes, I get the general meaning, but it goes on to say that this is sufficient evidence as long as it's accompanied by the 'garantie sur facture'. That's what stumps me - accompanied by what?
philgoddard Nov 6, 2019:
For anyone who's not sure what this is about, I think the sentence beginning "La page d'impression" means something like "If you print out this list, anyone carrying out an environmental audit on you should accept it as evidence that our products are organic."

guarantee on the invoice

This is about guaranteeing that the ingredients you supply are organic, so that other manufacturers can use them in their organic products.

The sentence beginning "La page d'impression" means something like "If you print out this list, anyone carrying out an environmental audit on you should accept it as evidence that our products are organic." The invoice will also include a statement that they are organic.

As your text mentions EU legislation, the guarantee on the invoice may be a statutory declaration.

Organic winemaking approved inputs

Not sure if the links below are relevant to the question, but they give some idea of what might go into an audit of organic winemaking.

Wherever you fit in the supply chain, vineyard or winery, you have to use products from a list of approved inputs, and presumably proof that you bought and used said inputs is good enough for your bit to be labelled "organic".
