Do you happen to know what exactly this 'scritto' is? If you do, I suppose you could add the specific 'format' to 'occasional' (occasional piece of writing; occasional contribution; occasional preface; occasional essay...).

I think Barbara's "occasional essay" is correct, with "occasional" in its rarer and more antiquated meaning of "for a specific occasion". You could possibly just say "essay" for the first example you posted.
