German term

Folientänzer

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
This is in a list of terms that I'm proofreading. I should imagine "Film dancer" is not correct. I have not found a single reference anywhere in a wide search, except for a translation into Spanish as rolo/cilindro tensionador (a Proz question), meaning tensioning roller, or something like that. I am not sure how to provide more context. Other terms include Flachfolienrolle, Presszylinder, Querschweissnaht, etc.
Proposed translations (English)
4 dancer roll
3 +3 film dancer

Heidi Newby-Rose (asker) Aug 18, 2019:
I am proofreading a translation. I am saying I need a suggestion for the translation of film dancer for Folientänzer, as it seems too obvious to me. I am talking about a list of terms that was translated by the translator and not a glossary. I have, as indicated above, found an acceptable translation in the packaging machine context. Thanks for all contributions.

In any case... ...this is certainly not proofreading. Cf.

By "a list of terms," I guess you mean a glossary. That's where I agree with David. You need a precise definition.

Though, quite honestly, jobs like this should go to people who specialized in this type of work.

If that's not possible, you really need someone at the company you can talk with. Else, you can't do the job right (speaking from experience).

The language pair, as indicated,is German to English. The term to be translated is Folientänzer. The translator had film dancer, which I have just now found out is not right, there seems to be a term "dancer arm" which I will use. Thanks everyone for the contributions!

BTW, in which direction was the original translation? Your post doesn't make it clear to me.

Heidi, to get this one right, you really must refer to your client and insist on a definition.
If you are proofreading, at least tell us the word of which it was a translation as ptherwise we are really in the dark, and only guessing, as JCC is.

dancer roll

Tänzer innerhalb einer solchen Anlage sind Umlenkrollen. Ich würde erstens "film" ganz weglassen oder film durch "foil" ersetzen, da es hier wahrsch. um Folienerzeugungs- oder Folienverpackungsanlagen geht. Und da ist foil als Ausdruck "more appropriate".
