French term

boitier de détente terminal

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng UK English – HVAC
" ... des réseaux de gaines de soufflage et de reprise à travers avec des boitiers de détente terminal qui alimentent des diffuseurs de soufflage et reprise plafonniers."

In view of the lack of punctuation, I would also appreciate some enlightenment about whether the sentence should be parsed as:

1) " ... des réseaux de gaines de soufflage et de reprise// à travers avec des boitiers de détente terminal qui alimentent des diffuseurs de soufflage et reprise plafonniers."

or

2) " ... des réseaux de gaines de soufflage et de reprise à travers// avec des boitiers de détente terminal qui alimentent des diffuseurs de soufflage et reprise plafonniers."

@ Asker Sorry, I don't have enough specialist knowledge to be much help here!
In terms of the parsing, I strongly suspect your version #2 is correct — the supply and extract need to create some kind of 'crossflow', which I would interpret as beinbg the 'à travers' here — typically, on opposite sides of the roomspace.
As for the 'boîtier de détente terminal', I would imagine this is some kind of 'plenum chamber', to reduce the air pressure at the vents (seems less intuitive at the EXTRACT side!) — the usual rule in HVAC is high volume / low velocity, in order to minimize noise, but perhaps this system for some reason has to work at higher velocity, and then the air pressure needs to be reduced before the air passes through thr grilles, where most of the noise is generated; but I'm afraid I have by now passed largely from extrapolation into guesswork!

Proposed translations

1 day 7 hrs

(VAX) VAV > variable air volume terminal unit; (gun) trigger end-plate

To start the ball rolling...

I can't be sure of the parsing, but alt. 2 seems right to me, followed - as it is/ en tant que - with another preposition.

Otherwise, as the into-ENG technical translators at my London translation office used to quip: 'system; case, housing; (switch)box; device, widget. contrivance, upright ? - when in doubt, just call it a unit'.

You don't mention my first principal answer. The rifle was an aside.
Example sentence:

Circular air terminal unit for use in variable air volume systems at low airflow velocities even under unfavourable upstream conditions Effective tubeless pressure monitoring via damper blade Effective pressure transmission through pressure

Note from asker:
Thanks Adrian, but I'm afraid I can't possibly use that. How on earth can a reference to trigger guards for guns possibly explain the function of an air handling component?!
I would need some relevant evidence to accept your suggestion. You may have noted that Tony, whose specialist subject is very closely linked, has declined to hazard an answer. This is a highly specialised field and so, I prefer to tell my client when I don't know how to translate something, rather than guessing. I'm afraid that it is unhelpful and confusing to put an "aside" that is completely off-subject as an alternative header term in your suggested answer.
