@Joanna Indeed, since he thanked to parents not actually present during the lecture, and he thanked them - say - symbolically as he was hoping that kids will send his thanks to parents.
Anyway, the link of the context refers to the solely given good bye thanks, thus this has to be understood - przyjść :)

@Jacek You're right. However, as this whole unsavory piece is about vaccination denial it could, at a stretch, be about 'coming out' in the sense of disclosing one's inclinations or (unpalatable in this case) opinions...

Regardless of the direction your guests come from you can say "thanks for coming out," but it's more natural if you have guests from all over or if they don't live nearby (or if they had to travel during a storm!) I mostly hear "thanks for coming out" at public events (concerts, sports) since people there come from all over.
