So although "administrative appeal" will most often be right, we do need to tread carefully, and the point I was making about country-specific questions and answers is reinforced.

@Robert Thanks for that correction. I didn't research this term in Mexico properly at all. I found this SC amparo judgment (2012), suggesting a judicial procedure:

"la parte quejosa demandó el amparo y protección de la Justicia Federal, en contra del proveído de treinta de enero de dos mil doce, que desechó el recurso de alzada, emitido por el Magistrado del Primer Tribunal Distrital del Estado"

This term needs in-depth country-by-country research. In Bolivia, which André mentioned, a recurso de alzada is an administrative appeal, made to a regional tax authority in this source, though I don't know whether it only applies to tax matters, and a recurso jerárquico is a further administrative appeal, against the resolución de alzada, to a national authority:

And the situation in Argentina is not as I suggested; it seems to be a secondary administrative appeal there, following a recurso de reconsideración or recurso jerárquico, though you can go straight to the vía judicial:

@Charles I agree with most of what you said, I just want to pick you up on the part about Mexico. While anecdotal, I've never come across the term in any appeals I've had to translate and it's never come up in any references either, plus there's no entry in Becerra. The type of appeal you mention is generally referred to as a "recurso de apelación". I've had a quick look around and it may have been used once upon a time in Mexico, presumably during the colonial era, but beyond that...
To your point about West: that entry cited by Mike is in an earlier version of his dictionary, and it doesn't mention any country in particular. Indeed, in his 2nd edition, he changed it to the following, which is clearly an improvement, at least with regard to Spain:

Thank you A LOT for your competent advice. I am trying to translate in English a table with the "Recursos procedentes según los actos susceptibles de impugnación ante el tribunal" by countries. For instance, for "Bolivia", I have "a) Recurso de Alzada; y,
b) Recurso Jerárquico....And for Spain, I have "Reclamación Económica-Administrativa
Recurso de Alzada Ordinario -
Recurso Extraordinario de Alzada para Unificación de Criterio -
Recurso Extraordinario para la Unificación de Doctrina -
Recurso Extraordinario de Revisión. -


...So I can imagine that according to the legal definition for each country the result can be different...but in these two cases it seems that "administrative appeal" would be working.

Therefore There are three essential minimum requirements when asking a question:
1) Check the glossary, as Wilsonn and others have said. In this case, all the information you need is in that previous question.
2) State the source country.
3) Quote the context in which the term is used.

Depends on the country It is absolutely essential, if you want an accurate answer, to state in the question which country the source text refers to. In Spain, as is well explained in the previous question cited by Taña, a recurso de alzada is an administrative procedure, not a judicial procedure. It's an appeal against an administrative decision, presented to a higher administrative authority. The answer to the previous question chosen by the asker, "to lodge an appeal with an intermediate appellate court for review of the decision of a public body", is incorrect for Spain. But it is valid for at least some Latin American countries, including Argentina, Mexico and, indeed, Panama. You can find Panamanian "recursos de alzada" online; they are heard by the Administrative Division of the Supreme Court. In Argentina, an administrative appeal is (apparently) called a recurso de reconsideración; a recurso de alzada is heard, again, by an appellate administrative court. And the same is true in Mexico; hence the definition in Tom West's dictionary, on which the answer quoted ("an appeal with an intermediate appellate court") is based.

Perhaps I should have elaborated more. Please refer to the first link where RJ explains: .... definition of "recurso de alzada" and to underscore that it is not an appeal to an intermediate appellate court, but rather an administrative appeal that must be filed to exhaust all administrative remedies, before taking the matter to the courts and filing a recurso contencioso-administrativo.
