Aus einer Anleitung für eine Radarsystem:
Data from the three antenna positions, normal – plunge – normal, should be clearly visible in the data.
Note that the data from the plunge mode, with angles that are offset almost 180 degrees, are translated back to normal mode azimuth and elevation angles.

Calculate the phase and amplitude of the plunge pass.
Amplitude should be similar for all passes and the phase for the plunge pass should be equal to the normal pass – 180 degrees.
Calculate the level bias in normal and in plunge mode.
The following graph shows the results from the three level measurement runs, two in normal and one in plunge.

Soweit ich weiß, funktioniert Radar nicht unter Wasser, deshalb scheidet Tauchen wohl aus. Eine Antenne kann vielleicht abgesenkt oder versenkt werden, nicht in Wasser, aber in ein Gehäuse, einen Turm o. Ä.
Vielleicht wäre es gut zu wissen, um welche Art von Radar es sich handelt.

: Versenken klingt gut - Antenne versenken geht sogar bei Opel Manta und unter Wasser - suche "Sonar Radar unter Wasser" - Bsp. http://www.radartutorial.eu/18.explanations/ex07.de.html

Ich bleibe bei "Eintauchmodus" und habe eine Frage an den Kunden weitergereicht.

Es ist vermutlich eine mobile Anlage, die muss nach dem Aufstellen geeicht werden. Wenn das Ding klein und mobil ist, kann der "tower" auch so etwas sein: http://www.ets-lindgren.com/products/positioners/antenna-tow...
Da kann man dann tatsächlich die Elevation zwischen 0° und 180° variieren (in der Frage steht "almost 180°).
Worum es bei der Sache geht, ist die Eichung wegen mechanischer Ungenauigkeiten der Schwenkeinrichtung (z. B. wg. Totgang und wg. Gewicht der Antenne). "Plunge-Stellung" ist dann eine Stellung, in der die Antenne weitestmöglich vom Testziel weggedreht ist, sowohl in waagerechter ("azimuth" im AT) als auch senkrechter Richtung. Damit fällt "...senk..." völlig aus. Das ist eine typische Situation, in der man das einsprachige Wörterbuch aufschlagen muss, damit könnte man für "to plunge" zu der Bedeutung "gegen den Anschlag fahren" kommen.
Ob die Antenne mechanisch, elektrisch (oder beides gleichzeitig) schwenkt, ist im Prinzip gleichgültig.
