German term
unverfügbar(keit)
German to English
Social Sciences
Philosophy
theology, ethics
Hello! These term(s), would , in most cases, be translated as "unavailable/unavailability" but, from the context (I'll give 2 sentences) that would clearly be incorrect here:
The text is an article for a theological magazine.
The deadline is rather tight. Many thanks in advance, dear colleagues, for all your suggestions!

Unfathomability (of God)
Gott ist unverfügbar = his power cannot be willed - God is unfathomable
Compare with this:

"..But because the human mind is simply incapable of fathoming God, all theological, philosophical, and even liturgical efforts to speak about God fall short. They’re “imaginative” truths, said Thomas, expressions of longing and love that offer glimpses of the Divine but are unable to do more. Nor does the claim that God became human in the person of Jesus the Christ make us better able to communicate who and what God is. If anything, it only deepens the mystery. Thomas sought to communicate the essential unfathomability of God in his verse..." https://www.dailyitem.com/opinion/columns/faith-matters-ragg...

Note from asker:
I was not notified of the answers-which is why I answer late.My translation was more in line with "his presence cannot be willed" and (for the 2-nd example): The witness of the Church, free from every external influence... |

God as inaccessible and unapproachable
This webpage explains these notions:

And here's a selection of passages from the Bible where this is discussed:

Unfathomability, by the way, is the "Unvorstellbarkeit Gottes," e.g.,

So, there's a German equivalent for this too and it isn't really the answer to your Q (you said as much yourself). I should have asked a colleague on here, I guess. She should know.

To me, this is very much in line with what I posted below at 17:04:
"He alone is the self-existing one. God is free to do whatever He chooses. This is also known as the independence of God or the freedom of God."

"In relation to God, transcendent is the idea that He exists both above and independently from all creation. In other words, there is no other created thing that matches His power. In addition, nothing else can interfere with His power. He created all space, time, energy, and matter."
https://www.compellingtruth.org/transcendent.html
"Although neither term is found in the Bible, transcendence and immanence are foundational concepts woven throughout the Old Testament and intensified by the New Testament writers who characterize God as both the one who is unapproachable and the one who dwells with his people...He is self-existent as well as self-relating—independent of all creation, yet intimately involved with the world he spoke into being."

Unapproachable (s.o.) wäre für mich "unnahbar".
Schönes WE!
"God is independent of everything. This includes His creatures and His creation. He needs nothing to exist. There are no restrictions upon His character. While humans need food, oxygen, and water to exist, God needs none of these things. He alone is the self-existing one. God is free to do whatever He chooses. This is also known as the independence of God or the freedom of God."

https://www.sueddeutsche.de/bayern/religion-antworten-auf-ei...
http://www.exerzitienreferat.de/downloads/bewegt.pdf

I've read the reference provided by Helen (thanks!); not sure it fits the above. Just an idea:

Probably related to extra nos:

The main point is "it's out of our hands"; this is why it's not "available."
Inalienable or inherent is what springs to mind (sanctity is related to it):

Anne, it would have to be unavailable and I wouldn't use it here--has more to do with, say, how to reach God.
