Kontekst:
Be sure to wear protective equipment and work in the windward side because it releases toxic gases.
Šta to tačno znači: raditi niz vetar (tj. vetar u leđa), ili raditi uz vetar (tj. vetar u lice)? Stao mi je mozak... ;)
Unapred puno hvala na pomoći.

niz vetar, u smeru vetra
Example sentence:

: Translations are not "just words": you would really recommend to someone ***as a safety instruction*** to put themselves in the path of toxic fumes?

Basic reality check: if you want to avoid being exposed to toxic fumes you must be on the side where the wind is blowing from you towards the source of fumes, not on the side where the wind is blowing fumes in your face.

in fact, there is an important implied element:
work in the windward side
means
work in the windward side of the source of toxic fumes
whether the wind is blowing in your face or your back is totally irrelevant - what is relevant is that you work on the side where the wind is blowing from you to the source of toxic fumes.
IOW scratch "ветар у лице", only "уз ветар" is aceptable.
[Be sure to wear protective equipment and] work in the windward side because it releases toxic gases.
