to emphasize the stress
Keep the definite article.
Compare with this:
"However, putting diacritics on every words in the sentence just to emphasize the stress, is being purist or Tagalista" https://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/en/tl/status

Stefan Ploch
: This is the usual (modern) way to express this in English (talking about linguistics, phonology, phonetics, etc.)

Yes, it is. Without stressing over this.

philgoddard
: It's not about phonological stress, it's about meaning.

The fact that you have a Begriff seems to support your case. But Betonung in isolation is typically used in connection with syllable stress. Case of awkward phrasing, perhaps.

to emphasise the accentuation
"to emphasise the accentuation" or "to emphasise the accent"

emphasising emphasis
Of course, it would be best to actually underline it,, which I cannot do here.

: This is the literal translation, but I think it sounds a bit weird :-)

Hi Phil, fully intentional - weird it is.

for emphasis
This sounds like saying the same thing twice to me, though not being a native speaker I can't judge. But the additional context in the discussion box shows that it's about using bold to emphasise important concepts, nothing to do with stress or accentuation. After all, that's what bold is usually used for.

Björn Vrooman
: In this context, Understreichung is the same as Kenntlichmachung/Hervorhebung ("mit grafischen Mitteln herausheben," as the Duden says). It's related to "emphasis added" in science papers.

Discussion
"The first syllable of these words is pronounced less forcefully than the second syllable. If we were to emphasize the stress using capital letters, the words might look like this: upHOLD, beNEATH, and inVENT. In poetic lines (also known as verse), 'iambic' just means that words in the line follow the pattern of unstressed syllables followed by stressed syllables."

If this was actually about syllables and not entire words, it would have been nice to see something about it in the question.

And here, from "Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Unleashed" by William R. Stanek:
"You can use normal, bold, italic, and bold italic. These different font types add emphasis and carry meanings."
I saw your post on another forum, Martina. They came to the same conclusion.
Unless you haven't told us something important, there's really not much else. Not sure why you're asking about intonation. It's a text, anyway.
