Por otra parte, entiendo que al traducir "externalize" por "exteriorizar" se pierde todo el sentido.
La traducción correcta es la literal: "externalizar" = tr. Psicol. Atribuir a factores externos el origen de sentimientos, percepciones o pensamientos propios.
