Kontrollbild

German to English Social Sciences Psychology addiction research

This is from a description of the following study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6174580/

By analogy, I know that "Störungsbild" can be translated variously as "disorder" or "symptom" or "symptom profile". In the first case of Kontrollbilder above, "controls" might work, but it doesn't work for the second instance.

Discussion

Susan Welsh (asker) Oct 19, 2018:
mea culpa! Johanna and Michael, I think you're right! I didn't notice that the table in the article I cited referred to "pictures" (I only searched for the word "image," which didn't do the job! That's the problem with doing word searches rather than looking at the article as a whole!) Thanks to you both

One was an explicit rating task, in which participants viewed smoking-related and matched control pictures and rated each picture in terms of its subjective ‘pleasantness’.

Johanna Timm, PhD Oct 19, 2018:
"Bild" I read your response to Michael but am still thinking that “Kontrollbild” might refer to an actual picture presented to the participant, i.e. “stimulus pictures” with cues that are expected to elicit a response and neutral “control pictures” [“Pictures” are also listed as type of stimulus in table 1 of the study in your link]
Cp.:
And:
In one condition subjects had to state whether they saw a smoking picture or a neutral control picture (explicit attention) whereas in the other condition they had to state whether parts of the figure were oriented vertical or horizontal (implicit attention)

Your text mentions "control cues" quite a bit

Compare with this:
"There were no significant group differences in the response to the control images."http://docs.autismresearchcentre.com/papers/2018_Holt_The-Ca...

Okay, Susan, "control cues" then..?
Note from asker:
Except there aren't any "images" (literally, i.e., pictures) in these studies, so far as one can tell.
They use "Kontrollreize" for "control cues." :-(
