English term

Weed \"infestation\"

Non-PRO English Science Agriculture Weed \"infestation\"
Hello everyone,

Can I use the term "weed infestation"? It is in the agricultural context, I write about land, which has an overload of weed, but I found the word "infestation" used only with insect, etc.

Thanks :)

yes (weed infestation)

I'm almost sure you can say "weed infestation. There are plenty of examples online, including the one below (quoted from NASA's website).

PS; In the example below, since it's a satellite image, it's virtually impossible to say whether the infestation had insects in it.
Example sentence:

This pair of images, acquired by NASA's Landsat 7 satellite, show the progress of the weed infestation on Caddo Lake.

agree Shekhar Banerjee : The quote from NASA proves it well enough.

agree Sheila Wilson : It's fine. Other useful terms for the context are "overgrown with weeds", "invasive species", "plant invasion"

agree katsy : I realise the question is closed, but just to confirm. Saw a garden in London just last week where there was a notice mentioning a weed infestation
