I'm translating an engineering degree transcript. In the grades section, there is a grade marked as "F/P". What does this mean? Thanks!

Hi Lorena, Hi Alison I didn't post it before because I had no way of knowing whether it was right, and without confirmation from the client we would never have known. So I can't claim much merit for it :-)

On the other hand, if an answer is posted we get a glossary entry, which might be useful, so OK.

Paging Charles Davis... paging Charles Davis. Mr. Charles Davis please pick up the white courtesy phone! ;-) Time to post an answer Mr.!
Helena Chavarria Jul 16, 2018:
@Alison Thank you for letting us know. Someone might find the information useful in the future.
Alison Trujillo (asker) Jul 16, 2018:
Thank you everyone for your input! I went with @Charles' answer that this stands for "Fuera del Programa," writing the English translation as "Outside Program." You could also probably say "Off-Campus Program." The client confirmed that this was correct in his case. Gracias!

Well, some do, at least:

"Que la evaluación del aprendizaje en cada asignatura se efectúa a través de dos evaluaciones parciales y una evaluación final."

Helena Chavarria Jul 14, 2018:
@Charles I don't really know how the grading system works in English-speaking countries but I know that in Spain, university students talk about 'notas/exámenes parciales y finales'. I don't know if they have a similar system in Mexico!
Charles Davis Jul 14, 2018:
@Helena That looks quite promising. It's not the same university, but at least it's the same country!

Just guessing Final/Parcial?
Anthony Mazzorana (X) Jul 14, 2018:
They're not using the English pass/fail, are they?
neilmac Jul 14, 2018:
My first thought... was "Formación Professional", which refers to vocational training in Spain. However, in the context I don't think this is a likely option.

Found this, but it relates to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Escuela Politécnica Nacional in Quito, Ecuador, not Mexico:

"Fuera de programa (F/P), es el ejercicio de las actividades dentro del programa anual, que por alguna razón fueron adelantadas en su ejercicio durante e! mes en que no estaban contempladas dentro de la planeación."

Alison Trujillo (asker) Jul 14, 2018:
Hi,
1. Not sure but I think so - it has the look of a typical report card with the school subjects and grades listed.
2. The other grades are all numerical, i.e. 7.0, 8.5, 9.0 on a 0-10 scale.
3. Yes, I mean column. The other sections listed are the semester number, year the curse was taken, and instructor observations.
lorenab23 Jul 14, 2018:
ok thank you Now,
1) is this a boleta global de calificaciones?
2) what other grades are there?
3) when you say section, do you mean a column? What other sections are there?

Alison Trujillo (asker) Jul 14, 2018:
Sure - The country is Mexico and the University is Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica.
lorenab23 Jul 14, 2018:
Hi Alison Could you please tell us the country of origin and if possible the name of the university?

Fuera del programa > Outside the program

As suggested in the discussion area. Here again is the reference I found, which is from the wrong country (Ecuador) but in the right subject area (Electrical Engineering):

"Fuera de programa (F/P), es el ejercicio de las actividades dentro del programa anual, que por alguna razón fueron adelantadas en su ejercicio durante e! mes en que no estaban contempladas dentro de la planeación."
