The word μεράκι has three (or four) distinct meanings:

1. αγάπη, ζήλος, όρεξη: Η μαγειρική θέλει μεράκι. (sense of) dedication, enthusiasm, gusto, passion
2. επιθυμία, λαχτάρα: Το ’χω μεράκι να ασχοληθώ με το θέατρο. longing, yearning, strong desire
3. (plural, μεράκια) α. καημός: Πιάσε ένα ποτό να φύγουν τα μεράκια. the blues, gloom
β. ευχάριστο συναίσθημα που προκύπτει από διασκέδαση: Ήπιαν λίγο και ήρθαν στα μεράκια. high spirits

Obviously, there are other alternatives and one’s choice depends on the context.
