When ready to pull the calf, bring the puller into position straight out from the cow. Take the slack out of the cable with the ratchet and begin to pull the calf. After winching a little to apply some pressure on the legs, slowly bring the end of the puller down as far as possible toward the level of the cow’s feet. Then lift it back up to original position, winching the slack you gained, and repeat the process until the calf’s head pops out (or hips, if backward). Then use the winching properties of the puller to get the calf on out.
