This is from a text about a body of work on Peronism in the 70s by an Argentine photographer:
Se trata del rostro de tres muchachos y una chica. El tono de las pieles resalta la diferencia de clases. En las expresiones de dolor hay desafío y, en el más moreno, una sonrisa donde la tristeza no deja de deslizar un toque de picaresca muy “peruca".
Thanks

peronist
El término peyorativo “peronato” fue otra de las maneras de definir el fenómeno desde la oposición. También el vocablo “peruca” –de uso actual- representa la forma descalificatoria del peronista.

peronist in inverted commas as in the original. Perhaps "picaresque and very "sly peronist" might give the reader a better idea of the meaning of the comment.

But "sly" is negative, and perhaps I was thinking of "wry"
"a wry smile , very picaresque and "young peronist"
Wry 1. adjective [usually ADJECTIVE noun] If someone has a wry expression, it shows that they find a bad situation or a change in a situation slightly amusing. Matthew allowed himself a wry smile.
