Swedish term

baskurser

Swedish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy
This is sort of a basic question, but I am looking for a generally accepted term in common usage at Swedish universities for this.

Baskurser

In the context of the ground-level courses offered, which are a prerequisite to taking advanced courses. Not introductory course, and not core courses.

Discussion

Charlesp (asker) Jan 8, 2018:
Note that "foundation course" actually has a different meaning in the context of UK education (e.g. a preparatory course for school-leavers); however in the context of Swedish university educational programmes, this is appropriate terminology. However for a text in US English, I would suggest "lower level undergraduate courses" would be more appropriate terminology.
Deane Goltermann Jan 3, 2018:
Agree with foundation.
Christopher Schröder Jan 3, 2018:
foundation courses
Charlesp (asker) Jan 3, 2018:
Thanks. Yes I am familiar with that base course is used by many schools, as the literal translation. But is that how universities in Ireland refer to the courses before the advanced undergraduate courses?

Basically correct; even if 'base course' is sometimes used.
