The complete sentence is 'Vårt møte med kontraster ender med nåtidsmennesket i velferdsstaten Norge - sydenturisten og pensjonisten, overflod og miljøproblem'.
I'm handing the assignment in in about five minutes, and I ended up choosing 'charter tourist', which was the closest match I found.

Tourists going south, sun-seekers
Syden-turist is the way to break up the word.
It implies 'sun-hungry' - tourists to southern climes, people who just can't wait for the spring at this time of year after the murky northern winter. Those who can afford it take a break in a warmer climate further south.
Charter tourists are what many of them are, even if it sounds slightly more mundane.
I did not see the question until after you had presumably sent in your assignment, so I have no qualms about answering. Best of luck with it!

sunbirds
Just back from Hawaii, I can attest to these people often being referred to as sunbirds - "...the present-day person in the Norwegian welfare state - the sunbirds and the retireds, excessive consumption and environental issues".
But charter tourist would work well as a stopgap measure, I suppose.
