Fürsorgegespräch

German to English Bus/Financial Human Resources Works agreement
I'm pretty sure this will be familiar to those more familiar with German labor law.

This is a component of a Works Agreement for a German company "zur Durchführung von Krankenrückkehrgesprächen / Rückkehrgesprächen / Fürsorgegesprächen".

Here's a sample sentence from within the document:

Das Krankenrückkehrgespräche / Fürsorgegespräch wird spätestens 2 Tage nach der Rückkehr des Mitarbeiters aus Arbeitsunfähigkeitszeiten von mehr als 5 Arbeitstagen zwischen Vorgesetzten und Mitarbeiter geführt.

What is a "Fürsorgegespräch?" I was under the impression that it was (as I initially translated it) a non-disciplinary "talk held with an employee who is experiencing visible problems" before they get out of hand. But the above sentence indicates that it is held AFTER an employee returns from work.

Is there a standard UK English phrase for this kind of talk?

It is held after a return from an absence It seems clear from other parts of the document that this is held after a return to work, so I guess the above link doesn't apply here.

But what about this link: This link http://www.dhs.de/fileadmin/user_upload/pdf/Arbeitsfeld_Arbe... gives a document in which a Fürsorgegespräch is held when "persönliche, soziale oder gesundheitliche Probleme werden am Arbeitsplatz sichtbar," (slide 5), so BEFORE (or unrelated to) an absence. But then in the document it says that this talk has to happen within 2 days after an employee returns to work. Am I overthinking this?

I think the key aspect of the Fürsorgegespräch is employee welfare. Maybe you can build something around that?

I see that the idea of welfare has been picked up by Armorel and designated a "good one" by Tony TK. Excellent!

For your quoted context:
Das Krankenrückkehrgespräche / Fürsorgegespräch wird ... geführt.

The return-to-work/welfare interview is to take place...

A tricky point here is how to handle the forward slash implying that the interview has two strands. Your German source text has Leerzeichen either side. As long as return-to-work is hyphenated, the Leerzeichen can be omitted in EN, IMO.

agree Björn Vrooman : Please note that even though it's singular, there can be more than one "Gespräch"; this probably is a combo of both and "interview" will sound more extensive in scope. But forget about "Fürsorge" then (which is where I agree with Phil).

You don't need to translate the three German words with three English ones. Based on the sentence you've given, they all mean the same thing. i would just put a translator's note explaining why the English is shorter.

to be proactive means to plan for a contingency or deal with potential problem, i.e. 'Fürsorge treffen dass etwas nicht passieren kann oder sollte'
