Character narration
The character is giving a kind of aside to the readers, explaining how he was once a figment of his author's imagination, pinning all his hopes on making it to become a written character. Just before this line he explains that at one point the author went off to become an actor, therefore putting aside the character (that the narrator is yet to become).
Niente."
Is this term questioning what can become of an actor of a literary character? Or is that not very accurate?
