For tractors to develop sufficient traction in heavy draft work, it is necessary to ballast them in the optimum way. The front axle is ballasted by attaching weights in the front linkage, which is usually easy and safe to do on today’s tractors. The rear axle is ballasted with up to 1,000kg wheel weights. The drawback of this solution is that these weights are difficult to attach and remove, and very cumbersome to handle – a time-consuming and hazardous approach. A much simpler solution is EZ Ballast Wheels. These weights are fitted to the wheels with a pallet fork and without bringing the wheels into the proper position first, which eliminates the need of jacking the tractor. Once fitted, the wheel weights are secured with toggle levers instead of bolted down.
