Chers collègues,

En note de bas de page dans un relevé de notes, il est question des initiales RN (report d'année). Par quoi rendre 'report d'année' en anglais ?

You Can ask for a report d'année for various reasons: Moving, childbirth, Family difficulties etc.

Report d'année involves taking a year out during a higher/further es. course without losing the benefit of marks and/or not losing one's place in the institution. I am on phone so can't copy and paste but if You Google report d'année you'll find examples. As for RN I have the same question as writeaway

Sabbatical year

Report d'année est équivalent au terme anglais "Sabbatical year".
L'équivalent non formel en anglais se traduit comme "gap year".

neutral writeaway : I think you may have the right idea but professors take sabbaticals afaik, not students. a gap year is something else altogether. a gap year is taken between the end of secondary and the start of university studies

After the report is written, if it is marked RN, it means Yearly Report or Report for the year in question.
