BTW kilkanaście lat temu jedna z posłanek stwierdziła, że w pewnym hotelu znajdują się korytarze poziome i korytarze pionowe. Na wszelki wypadek sugeruję nie iść w jej ślady.

Maybe. I am reminded of the words of a famous philosopher - Tevye the Milkman - who in "Fiddler on the Roof," in the song "If I were a rich man" sang:
I'd build a big tall house with rooms by the dozen,
Right in the middle of the town.
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below.
There would be one long staircase just going up,
And one even longer coming down,
And one more leading nowhere, just for show.

Thanks, Michał. Looks like I was on the right track. Passageway is horizontal. Stairs adds the third dimension.
