Thank you for your suggestion. "Masterly inactivity" led me to a few synonyms that may be better in the medical context such as "watchful waiting". You were very helpful.

Masterly inactivity? I think the meaning of the sentence is something like: to continue to watch and wait. Sometimes this is referred to as masterly inactivity. Other options could include: to keep a warching brief; to carry on monitoring the patient.
