Robin, your point about the impossibility of proving that something did not happen is vital. But we are getting very little of the original text (evidenciaron el hecho) and a general description mixed into one. So at this point, only the Asker knows about the full context and how the TL pieces may fit into the translation. Generally, I would say evidencia is proof and prueba is evidence, but without concrete context, your answer seems to be the best fit. But then again, the other answers may be more appropriate. It all goes back to context.

evidenciar 1. Hacer patente y manifiesta la certeza de algo; probar y mostrar que no solo es cierto, sino claro.

@Denise Your additional “context” begs the question: why use different expressions, apparently to mean the same thing?

First you say:
el primer párrafo se habla de la fecha de la boda y al final: Presentaron la prueba correspondiente

That most likely means they provided unequivocal documentary proof in the form of a marriage certificate.

Later, you say:
se habla de que no hubo hijos y otros detalles del matrimonio, y al final: Evidenciaron el hecho.

It is important here to remember that is impossible to “prove” before a court of law that something did not happen (like having children, for example). On this (possibly delicate) topic, the “evidence” (not firm proof) was likely to have been witness statements (taken under oath, probably, but still potentially biased), where people who knew the couple said they had observed the absence of kids in the family home, signs of pregnancy, etc.

I suggest that in the translation you should retain the (subtle, but important) distinction between prueba and evidencía, to avoid giving equal weight to documented fact and something that might be nothing more reliable than hearsay.

Hola! No quiero dar datos muy específicos, pero en el primer párrafo se habla de la fecha de la boda y al final: Presentaron la prueba correspondiente. En el segundo párrafo se habla de que no hubo hijos y otros detalles del matrimonio, y al final: Evidenciaron el hecho. Creo que quisieron decir lo mismo que "Presentaron la prueba correspondiente", pero dicho de otra manera. ¿Qué piensan?
