"metrics" are various "indicators of success" - variables that also happen to be quantifiable

IOW the short-term "goals" have to based on the "metrics" used to evaluate the success of the company (and also be quantifiable - not open to subjective or only qualitative evaluation)

an example - if one the metrics used to evaluate the success over 18 months is the average value of one contract, than one of the "goals" over 3 months would to increase the average value of one contract, not the total value of all contracts or some other "metric".

seems to me obvious, but apparently needs explaining:

metric-driven (goals)
=>
goals that are driven by metrics

Nota Bene : "driven by metrics" NOT "metrics"

these metrics (evaluated over 18 months) ARE NOT the goals, they are "driving" the goals i.e. determining what are going to be the goals for the next three months.


there is no way that you can just ignore the "driven by" part of the term to translate!

have you got any idea what are in fact "metrics" and what they are used for? ... not to mention that you are blissfully ignoring the "driven by..." part as if it was there just as a useless decoration - well IT'S NOT it happens to be the key part!!
