einfach/doppelt hohe Zeichen

German to English Tech/Engineering Medical: Instruments dosimeter
Hi folks.

Translating the test report for a dosimeter used in the medical field. They are checking whether the units are correct. Then I hit this sentence:

Die radiologischen Einheiten müssen mit einfach hohen Zeichen dargestellt werden, die elektrischen mit doppelt hohen.

So, what are 'einfach hohe Zeichen'?

The pages following are just the fields to be used to record the information and there are no items there that have 'hohe Zeichen' of any kind.

So, does this have to do with height of the font? Or is it that the exponent is squared (doppelt), or what?

So, anybody hit this term before? Any good guesses?

All contributions gratefully accepted.

Thanks for reading.

@Anne The text does appear to come from a native German speaker. Aside from the odd typo, the German is pretty good. And, as they are using an LCD, it appears that Phil G's suggestion fits.

Any indication where the device is produced? Could it be a German mis-translation from another language?

normal-/double-height characters

For example:
"Je nach verwendetem Zeichensatz sind mit Shift Grafikzeichen oder Großbuchstaben zu erreichen. Durch Erstellung eines eigenen Zeichensatzes kann man jedoch auch Zeichen mit doppelter Höhe (1×2) darstellen: Hierzu wird die obere Hälfte in den Bereich für die normalen Zeichen platziert, die untere Hälfte findet im Bereich für geshiftete oder (ganz nach Bedarf) reverse Zeichen Platz."

And don't forget that Zeichen means character, not specifically number or figure:
