English term

wimming

English to Spanish Other Government / Politics Activism
Hi, I am translating a political text about prison strikes and the word "wimming" is used to describe some of them. The target language is Spanish and I don't know how to translate it.
The text is written in American English.

This is part of the sentence I want to translate:

"...lack of interaction with those in wimmin's prisons."

agree Antuel D'Adam : You are right, but it is actually a variant used by some feminists to avoid the derivative word 'women'. There is no problem with 'mujeres', but you might want to reflect the author's ideology with an 'x' (as in 'trabajadorxs') at some point.

agree Emma Miliani : That is the definition given by the Oxford Dictionary and by the Urban Dictionary.

(prisión para) mujeres

But my interpretation would be that the O'Brien uses wimming to show that the speaker is uneducated and is mispronouncing women.

neutral Jennifer Levey : If you are going to make unfounded assumptions about the education of the speaker, you should offer a translation that reflects that same level of (un)education.
