The terminology used is often just random, especially in translated source texts, so it would be helpful to see an image, at approximate one..

No, it is not. However I guess that the operating principle might be similar to *some* of the nuts used for earrings, i.e. this particular type of nut may be without threads. Of course, the text was not originally in English and it would be safe to assume that the expression is wrong, but there is an actual drawing attached and it definitely is not earring ear nut (nor wing nut, for that matter).
