We open in Cairo in the middle of the Arab spring which, at the time, is seen to be a huge liberation. Jonas is the night manager of a hotel and a beautiful woman entrusts him with some very, very serious documents which could offset the local – if not global – balance. Pine feels compelled to act upon being given these documents which leads to a series of events and Jonas becoming deeply embroiled in Smith's world.

English term (edited):
deeply embroiled
profondement mêlé
Though I think you might find it more natural in FR to use a noun expression instead of a verb like this; in effect, 'Jonas's deep embroilment in' — which R+C suggests might come back to what was my original thought: 'implication'

...qui conduisent Jonas à pénétrer profondément dans le monde de Smith
on pourrait aller jusqu'à "explorer le monde", mais je le ressens comme plus neutre que "s'impliquer" qui suggère une adoption des règles ou "empêtrer" qui donne un côté négatif irréversible. Evidemment il faudrait savoir ce qui se passe ensuite pour savoir si Jonas est vraiment impliqué, empêtré ou autre
