Por lo menos en el inglés norteamericano, “super” es una forma abreviada de “supervisor” y se usa para referir a la persona que se encarga de resolver cualquier problema que pueda surgir entre los inquilinos de un edificio de departamentos. A veces él mismo (suele ser un hombre) realiza la reparación que hace falta. En otros casos se les arregla para que se la realiza otra parte.
Como parte de sus deberes, el super también vela por la seguridad del edificio, aunque no sea un “vigilante” propiamente dicho.
