If a Ni-MH battery is subject to repeated and extensive
over-deep discharges, such as an aggressive conditioning procedure to eliminate “memory”, which runs the
battery down completely on a regular basis, it can experience a voltage reversal of one of the five cells. This can
cause a build up of pressure inside the cell which could lead to venting of the electrolyte cell damage and early
battery failure. In addition, should the pressure relief vent on the top of the battery stick become damaged, this
pressure build up could lead to the cell’s bursting and possible injury.
