The Q-tip was invented in the 1920's Leo Gerstenzang (a Polish-born American). His wife had used a toothpick with cotton stuck on the end to clean their baby's ears, and Leo invented Q-tips to replace her jury-rigged invention. Gerstenzang's original Q-tips consisted of a wooden stick.

: I'd never heard of this meaning before, outside of "jury tampering". http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/jury–rig In Mexico, they're commonly called "cotonetes" (though this is a trademark), or "aplicadores".

[invento] amañado a (toda) prueba/de juicio
Loosely translated this is what it means. It's a play-on-words that has to be interpreted in Spanish and I hope you will agree with me:
rig: manipular, amañar
jury: jurado
So, my 2 suggestions would be: "invento amañado a toda prueba" or "amañado a prueba de juicio". I believe it conveys the original idea correctly.
