Spanish term

figuraciones

Spanish to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Jockey record
Hello. I'm translating a jockey's track record and I can't find the meaning of "figuraciones" (even though I've found quite a few instances of it being used).

The context is the following:

El ciudadano XXX, titular de la cédula de identidad No. XXX, cumplió campaña como jinete en esta institución, egresando de la promoción del año 2011, con las siguientes figuraciones:

This is followed by a chart that mentions year, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, NF and total.

I believe it might be "winners", with total being "starts" but I'm not exactly sure. Can anyone familiar with horse racing be of help?

Thanks in advance!

Figuración means social standing. So, here it may be "ranking"?

jockey stats

These stats do make up the form, as Adrian says, but in the context of a certificate I think you need something like stats, as they are known, or simply "race results"

agree philgoddard : "Jockey" is redundant, and I wouldn't abbreviate "statistics", but that or "results" would work.

Glad you found something you liked :) Thanks!
agree Charles Davis : Horses have form, jockeys have stats.

Interesting, I'd never thought about it like that. Thanks!
agree Taña Dalglish : http://www.emiratesracing.com/racing-information/results (example of statistics). Un abrazo.

Thanks Taña!
neutral Toni Castano : No, not only the jockey, but mainly the horse. "Stats" is too vague.

(racing) form

Horses and greyhounds: based on past performances.

UK criminals: 'previous' (form = convictions); criminal record.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Robert Carter : Sounds totally right to me Adrian, though your example sentence and first reference are off the point.//Actually, having looked into it a bit more, I don't think it is referring to form in the general sense, but specifically "places".

Thanks, Robert. Whilst I, schooled near Epsom Race Course, can see the virtue of jockey stats, I still think that 'jineteros' on Cuba def. do have form.
neutral Toni Castano : Past performances is my conclusion, but "racing form" does not convince me.

places

I hadn't understood what "figuraciones" was referring to before, but now I think it's referring to "places".
Al día siguiente, viajó hasta California para montar en el escenario de Hollywood Park, donde alcanzó un lauro y varias figuraciones.

"Statistics" covers a whole range of criteria, including runs or rides, wins, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, prize money, and "places", i.e. when the jockey came in among the top places in a race, depending on what the criteria for a "place" is.
https://form.virtualformguide.com/leaderboards/2015-statisti...

If you bet on a horse to finish in a place, you are backing it to finish in the top two, three or four, depending on the number of runners in the race.
https://support.paddypower.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1399/...

I'm assuming that in this case, "placing" also includes up to fifth place.

Compare the virtualformguide.com link above with the one below:

The headings in the table shown are:
"carreras ganadas", "carreras corridas", "eficiencia 1er. lugar", "figuraciones", and "eficiencia figuraciones".
So, by my reckoning it can't be statistics, as those are all statistics.
Peer comment(s):

agree Toni Castano : I am going to agree with you, Robert, I think you deserve it because you (correctly) suspected that it was more than mere stats. In my research, I finally came to the conclusion that the technical term needed here is "past performances".

record

When the sports statistics in question are specifically total competitions, finishing place, etc., "record" is usually used.

Although not the literal translation, the statistics being provided constitute the jockey's record, so in this particular case it would work well.
Example sentence:

Career Record: 9 starts - 5 wins, 2 seconds, 0 thirds

George Baker - Record by race type

Figuraciones (en el marcador)

The full term is “figuraciones en el marcador” and apparently translates in the horse racing jargón (if I am right) as “past performances”. Please see definition below. It´s a summary of a horse´s record that is necessary to determine the hándicap.

Only a middle confidence level. Although I am enthusiastic about horses, turf is clearly not among my favourite sports.

Sorry for the accents, it was unintentional, but Word wants me to put them, even in English :-)
