There are also a number of jokes and puns in the text, for example [The game is played in turns (as opposed to being played in prison, or in a tuxedo)], so we will want to give them extra attention, as some of them won’t translate literally.

It is supposed to be funny. If it is a play on words it is a play on the various possible meanings of "in"(clothes, location and so on).
You could leave it out altogether (many customers instruct me to just leave out the jokes and puns), or you would have to find something in German that is grammatically parallel, but contentwise unrelated. Difficult -- "die Spieler sind abwechselnd am Zug (statt im Zug oder auf der Zugspitze)"; "die Spieler sind abwechselnd am Zug (statt am Futtern oder am Ende ihrer Kräfte)" -- that's really stupid, but maybe the more literary translators have better ideas?
