Does anyone in Chile, or elsewhere of course, know what a "Cuenta RUT" account is?
I would have hope to get the answer here http://www.bancoestado.cl/88F6102DD50B49CCA890EA5D1C709D18/2... but...
Your suggestions are appreciated!

CuentaRUT
As it is the name of a product (a bank account), I would stick the two parts back together and leave it as it is.

Taña Dalglish
: Agree, but I think I would add "RUT (Rol Único Tributario)" with an English explanation, or a TN's note, or something along those lines Regards.

Thanks Taña! depends on the circumstances, one can spend one´s life explaining things if you are not careful. I might add "Savings Account" though, to be helpful.

: Yes. Proper nouns don't translate. And no 'TN' needed either (it'd be a minefield in this case because the a/c is in fact linked to a RUN (=CNI in some countries), not a RUT (tax ID number)).

: Thanks for the explanation, though I wouldn't normally translate a product name.

: The CuentaRUT has nothing whatsoever to do with a RUT (tax ID).

RUT savings account
I'd say. There are a number of sites in English explain the Cuenta RUT - a savings account for those with a RUT that comes with a debit card.

But I would leave in the translation like this: "... Cuenta RUT (RUT savings account)"
In this case be sure to italicize "Cuenta RUT"

Should be "CuentaRUT" (together)

: 1. "for those with..." - everyone who's allowed to open a savings a/c in Chile necessarily has a RUT. 2. The Cuenta RUT is not a 'saving a/c' - you get no interest on it. 3. It does not come with a 'debit card'. Source: I have one.

Discussion
Perhaps it'll help if I mention that the CuentaRUT was set up by the BancoEstado (= ex state-owned bank, now run as a quasi-autonomous entity) at the request of the Chilean government a few years ago as a "starter" account for folk who previously had no bank account at all. The ideas behind it included: facilitate the secure payment of wages for low-earners (reduce risk of payroll robberies), encourage people to manage their money sensibly, give access to funds 24/24 through ATMs (but without all the facilities you'd normally get from a fully-fledged debit card). There's a (low-ish) upper limit on the funds that can be held in the a/c, and (in theory) no bank charges (at least for electronic transactions).
