agree Carol Gullidge : this is what we called it all over Africa, and it sounds less sophisticated and perhaps therefore more appropriate for Polynesia. On the other hand perhaps bush telegraph is specific to Africa…?

Thanks, Carol. Have to admit I didn't realise we were talking about Polynesia! IMO its a fairly common expression not specifically related to Africa.
