Spanish term

RAN

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Ophthalmology
An ophthalmology clinic in Puerto Rico has this term on a sheet of instructions for the patient.
In this case, the patient has been blind in the right eye since birth, and now the doctor is attempting to
save the left eye, which has the conditions of macular and retinal serous detachment and coloboma.

The title of the sheet is
INSTRUCCIONES PARA PACIENTES DE ***RAN*** Y BIOMETRÍA

Under the heading ***Ran***:

Se refiere a la evaluación pre-operatoria que le realiza el médico al paciente.
En esta el oftalmólogo realiza las pruebas necesarias antes de la operación.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Discussion

Dr. Jason Faulkner Feb 6, 2016:
You've got it That makes perfect sense in this context.
Charles Davis Feb 6, 2016:
@Lorena Excellent suggestion; very probably right in my opinion.
Carole Wolfe (asker) Feb 6, 2016:
@lorenab23 - Your suggestion makes sense because there is another page in the file called Requisition for Fluorescein Angiography.
lorenab23 Feb 6, 2016:
I am grasping at straws here but
1) Any chance, since it is Puerto Rico, that this "acronym" was left in English? (from experience Puerto Rico has a tendency to do so)
2) Could it mean Retinal ANgiography?
Carole Wolfe (asker) Feb 5, 2016:
My translation under Biometry on the same instruction sheet is

"This measures the axial length of the eye that is going to be operated on. It is used along with Keratometry to calculate the lens that the ophthalmologist will implant during cataract surgery."

BUT, I don't think the patient is scheduled for biometry because only ***RAN*** is circled.
Dr. Jason Faulkner Feb 5, 2016:
What kind of biometría are they referring to?
Carole Wolfe (asker) Feb 5, 2016:
The patient's retina is scheduled to undergo Argon Laser treatment also.
philgoddard Feb 5, 2016:
If you don't find out what it stands for, you could just make something up, since you have a definition. You could say something like "pre-surgery review".

ANC

Recuento absoluto de neutrófilos (absolute neutrophil count) is one of the parameters in a biometría hemática (complete blood count). I'm not sure if it makes sense in this context because it's one of many parameters and doesn't have much significance on its own. Do you have it in another context?
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : I don't think this is very likely because it's defined below the heading.
