Italian term

su base non coeva

Italian to English Art/Literary Archaeology cappella gentilizia- Museo di Adrano
Nella cappella trovano posto una statua in marmo acefala del XVI secolo, l’Immacolata, due sculture di piccole dimensioni, ma di indubbia raffinata fattura, una in marmo alabastrino scolpito raffigurante la Madonna acefala con il Bambino in braccio su base non coeva del XVII e secolo.

Or "dating from a different period". In other words, the base was made at a different time to the statue.
The Italian is not very helpful, since it doesn't say when the statue was made. Also, there appears to be something missing after "Immacolata", possibly the word "e", unless you've omitted the end of the sentence.

agree Shera Lyn Parpia : A perfectly good word, but not used very often these days. Might be suitable in an academic text.
